October 2007

Once again, a big thank you to parents for sending their children in school colours, they look very smart and are a credit to you.  In order to reduce lost property, parents are reminded to label EVERY item of clothing (including footwear) with their child’s name.

Forthcoming Events

The Book Fayre arrives in school on Thursday 11th October and will be available after school for one week and collected on Thursday 18th October. There will be suitable books for all age  ranges with prices starting from £1.50.

We use the commission we earn to purchase books for our school library.

Attendance

In the event of your child being too ill to attend school we ask that you can contact us on the first day of illness.  The attendance target for our school is 95%.  Since September nine classes have attained 95% attendance and 373 children have gained 100% attendance.  This is a fantastic achievement.

Medicines in School

There is no legal or contracted duty on school staff to administer medicine or supervise a pupil taking it.  This is a voluntary role.  The school has a policy for supporting pupils with medical needs.  This policy is in accordance with LEA guidelines.  School will agree with a

parent prior to prescribed medication being brought into school.  Parents must inform the Headteacher about the child’s medical condition and medication.  Consent forms are available from the school office and must be completed prior to prescribed medication being given.  Antibiotic courses will not be administered by school staff. Non-prescription medicine will only be administered at the discretion of the Headteacher.

Golf Course

We are one of the first schools in Sandwell to teach golf to our pupils.  Our mini golf course is almost complete and the official opening is coming soon.

Sports Department

We have been successful in our bid for a coaching pack from Barclays Spaces for Sports & Arts.  The pack includes a range of coaching materials and clothing for the children who represent our school in sports.

Celebrate your birthday at Uplands Manor with a sport party.  Most sports catered for.  For more details please contact Kevin on 07717534363

Autumn Half Term

School closes on Friday 19th October at 3.15 p.m.  School re-opens to the children on Monday 29th October.

You should all have received two forms asking for emergency information for

your child.  If you have not returned these forms can you please send them in as soon as possible.  If anyone has lost their forms, they are available from the school office.

Learning At Home

All children from Year 1-Year 6 have a Learning at Home Information Book and a workbook to record their answers.  These books go home with the children every Thursday and should be returned to school by the following Tuesday.

Community Champion

We are part of an Extended School Network and we are looking for somebody to work 4 hours with us as a Community Champion to help us improve communication between school and carers.  Please contact the school office for more information.

Uplands Manor Website

We are currently in the process of updating our school website to include a parents area.  In this area you will have access to information such as holiday forms,  change of contact details and newsletters.  The website address is at the beginning of this Newsletter.

Spare Clothing

We are running low of spare clothing to use for ‘little accidents’.  We would be grateful of any spare clothing you may have.

Message From Sandwell Police

Sandwell Community Police have asked us to remind children about the dangers of throwing stones at passing vehicles.  They take this reckless behaviour very seriously and any offenders will be dealt with appropriately.

Reception Parents

For safety reasons could the parents of reception children please encourage their children to come into school on their own.  Messages for teachers can be left with the member of staff on the door.  If you need to speak to your child’s teacher please do so at the end of school, when all the other children have been dismissed.
